How to curate your Instagram in Lightroom

I recently decided to up my Insta game. I’m pretty intentional and methodical about the work I feel like sharing. I’m also not that great at deciding on the fly what to post for the day.
To strengthen my feed as a curated piece of work itself I made this preview in Lightroom and we thought everyone should know about it!

How to use adobe Lightroom to curate your Instagram

  • Lightroom can be used to preview what your post will look on your Instagram feed
    • The setup is fairly simple using the Web Workspace
    • Switch to the Square Gallery Layout Style > Square Gallery
    • You can now modify the web page properties
      • Color Palette > Background = White
      • Common Settings > Thumbnail Size = Medium or Large

Import Photos to Lightroom

  • Next import your photos to Lightroom, these can be edited photos or they can be edited at the end.
    • Drag and Drop to the Library Workspace or File > Import Photos & Videos
      • Shortcut: Ctrl+ Shift + i
    • Click Import and add your photos to a Collection
  • Click back to the Web Workspace and view your images.

  • Next we will reorder the photos to be more aesthetically pleasing. To curate the feed.

Open Photoshop

  • Open Photoshop and create a new file
    • File > new
      • Crtl + N
    • We need to make the image size square
      • 400 x0400 72ppi
    • Fill the layer with White
      • Switch Forground color to White
        • Shortcut X
      • Edit > Fill > Foreground Color
      • Paint Bucket
        •  Shift + G
      • Save out a JPG
        • File Save As > JPG
          • Save for Web Shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Alt + S
      • Import the White Box JPG into Lightroom

  • You now have a white box that you can use to manipulate Lightroom to look like Instagram
  • Make sure your white box is in the same Collections as your photos
    • Click back over to Web Workspace
      • Find your white box and create a Virtual Copy
        • Right+ Click on the white box > Create Virtual Copy
        • For my screen resolution I needed to create two White Boxes in all row and place them at the end of three images

Repeat

Repeat this process until you have only three columns of images

  • Now you can drag your images around and change the order
    • This is a quick way to preview what your Instagram feed will look like before you post!
    • BOOM!
