We love winter hiking. It’s possibly our favorite season to hike in. Of course we love the warm summers but there’s just something about going out in the cold and quiet that really resonates with us. I especially love how you can walk a few feet into the forest and just listen to so many different sounds that you don’t hear in the other seasons. The trees moving, the wind blowing, animals foraging…it’s pretty magical. In Ohio we’re lucky to have all of the seasons and Cuyahoga Valley National Park doesn’t disappoint when it comes to winter hiking.
Earlier this month we went out on one of the only snowy days we have had until this week and it got us so ready for this cozy weather season! Maybe I just love warming up after the hike in some coffee shop, which we did, but the cold crisp air was just perfect and we were the only people out there.
Pick any trail in the CVNP and you’ll be greeted with views of beautiful rocks, rolling hills and Ohio countryside. This trip we chose to keep it simple since it was about twenty degrees out. We started our hike in one of the parking lots south of Indigo Lake for a nice two hour hike out and back.
